It’s the return of “Meet Your Sensei!”, with this month’s teacher – Antonio sensei!

Q: Where are you from? What’s your favorite thing about your home country?

A: I was born in Jakarta, Indonesia but grew up in multiple countries. One thing about Indonesia that I love the most would be the diversity and taste of its food. My stomach used to be immune to spicy food, but after living in Japan for more than 6 years, I can’t handle it anymore!

Q: What did you enjoy doing when you were a kid?

A: I’ve really enjoyed playing the drums since when I was 5 years old. My mother used to be a piano teacher and she wanted everyone in our family to master at least one musical instrument. I fell in love with drums since the first time I learned how to hit the snare and bass drum.

Q: What did you do before becoming an English teacher?

A: I was studying about Japanese society and global culture at Doshisha University of Kyoto. I spent a lot of time traveling across Japan and other countries in Asia when I was still at University. While I was still in college, I taught both adults and children many aspects of the English language. One of the reasons why I am working at EP! right now is because I believe that our institution has multiple programs that will shape our student’s way of learning and way of communicating with people from all over the world.

Q: What’s your favorite Japanese food?

A: My all-time favorite Japanese food would be the A5 Wagyu ribeye roast served with crispy garlic and asparagus. Some people believe that we should eat to live but this food makes me live to eat!

Q: Why did you want to live in Japan?

A: One of the things that I enjoy doing is learning new languages. I found the Japanese language to be very rich and fascinating when I first visited Japan back in 2010. Realizing how safe the country is and how polite people are, I wanted to try living in Japan for at least two years. I can’t imagine living in another country after experiencing life here for 6 years now!
