| On behalf of everyone here at English-Please! I would like to say thank you to all students, both kids and adults, for another fantastic year. 2020 was a challenge for all of us, having to adjust to life in a post-COVID world. It’s been somewhere between inconvenient and downright scary for a big chunk of the year but you have made it much easier to get through the day to day of it all. Thank you for being patient with us while we figured out how to move our classes online. And thank you for being flexible and adapting to our new policies regarding the corona virus.
2020 was a landmark year for EP! in a number of ways. We taught our first Zoom lessons, everything from With Mama through to Native Media. We have gotten better how to use our online resources since the beginning of the year, and though we hope it won’t come to it, we are fully prepared to return to online lessons should the need arise.
With regards to kyouzai, we introduced all-new material for the Phonics 123 course series, which was well received by both staff and students. The old Phonics material has served us well but it was time for something fresh and more aligned with our four skills teaching philosophy. This included new homework booklets, flashcards, games, and online materials along with the launch of a new website, EP.builders.
We also released 42 new lessons for Express Yourself! Some of the topics covered in these new lessons include sports personalities, outbound tourism, fast food, manga, world heritage, inspiration, and idols. We hope our students enjoy discussing these topics as much as we enjoyed putting together the questions.
We will continue to improve and expand upon these courses into the future, and we appreciate any feedback you may have. We also have a few new things planned for the new academic year. We will speak more on these plans closer to their release dates, so stay tuned!
In addition to further additions and improvements to the curriculum, we’re looking forward to bringing back our Annual English Please Picnic event in 2021. Having had to cancel in 2020 due to COVID-19, it would be great to bring the EP! community together in Asuka for a few outdoor activities and some good old fun in the sun. It really has been such a wonderful event in years past – here’s hoping we can go ahead with it and won’t have to call it off again!

English-Please! 今年も素晴らしい一年を過ごすことができ、子供も大人も含め、すべての生徒に感謝の気持ちを伝えたいと思います。2020年は私たち全員にとって、COVID後の世界での生活に適応しなければならないという挑戦でした。この一年の大部分は、不便と恐怖の間のようなものでしたが、皆さんのおかげで、日々の生活を楽に乗り切ることができました。授業をオンラインに移行する方法を考え出した時、辛抱強く対応してくれてありがとうございました。また、コロナウイルスに関する新しい方針に柔軟に対応してくれたことにも感謝しています。
2020年は、EP！にとって様々な意味で画期的な年でした。私たちは初めてのZoomレッスンを教え、With MamaからNative Mediaまでのすべてを教えました。今年に入ってからオンラインリソースの利用方法が良くなってきており、そうならないことを願っていますが、必要に応じてオンラインレッスンに戻れるように準備を整えています。
教材については、フォニックス123コースの新教材を導入しましたが、スタッフにも生徒さんにも好評でした。古いフォニックスの教材は十分に役立ってくれましたが、4技能教育の理念に沿った、より新鮮なものが必要になりました。これには、新しい宿題ブックレット、フラッシュカード、ゲーム、オンライン教材、新しいウェブサイトEP.builderの立ち上げが含まれています。
また、「Express Yourself! これらの新しいレッスンでは、スポーツパーソナリティ、アウトバウンドツーリズム、ファーストフード、マンガ、世界遺産、インスピレーション、アイドルなどのトピックが取り上げられています。生徒の皆さんがこれらのトピックについてのディスカッションを楽しんでくれることを願っています。
私たちは今後もこれらのコースを改善し、発展させていきたいと考えています。また、新年度にはいくつかの新しいことを計画しています。これらの計画については、リリース日に近日中に詳しくお伝えしますので、ご期待ください。
カリキュラムへの更なる追加や改善に加え、2021年には毎年恒例のEnglish-Please! Picnicイベントを復活させたいと考えています。2020年はCOVID-19のために中止になってしまいましたが、EP！のコミュニティが飛鳥に集まって、太陽の下で野外活動や楽しい時間を過ごせたら最高ですね。何年も前から本当に素晴らしいイベントだったので、今回も中止にならないように期待しています。
