It’s the return of “Meet Your Sensei!” , with this month’s teacher – Kamille sensei!
Q: Where are you from? What’s your favorite thing about your home country?
I’m from Manila, Philippines. My favorite thing about the Philippines is the food. Philippine food is a mix of Asian and Western food so the food is a fusion of so many different cultures and tastes, it never gets boring.
Q: What did you enjoy doing when you were a kid?
I enjoyed playing outside with my friends a lot when I was a kid. We would play all sorts of games like tag, hopscotch, cops and robbers and other fun activities. I also enjoyed spending time indoors making things with clay or painting. I loved to read, too – I used to collect Roald Dahl and Goosebumps books. In school, I would usually be found in the library during break time and would borrow new books every week!
Q: What did you do before becoming an English teacher?
I had several jobs before I became an English teacher. My course in my university was Information Design, so for the first couple of years after college I did a lot of graphic design work. After that I got into video production management, then moved up to becoming a project management and business development executive for a video and technology start-up company.
Q: What’s your favorite Japanese food?
Food has always been my passion, I love to eat and make food! It’s difficult to pick a favorite since I love Japanese food, but right now my favorite would be tonkotsu ramen. I would appreciate getting some recommendations please!
Q: Why did you want to live in Japan?
I’ve enjoyed Japanese culture since I was a child. When I finally got the chance to come here in 2013, it felt like I was coming home. My husband (then, boyfriend) got work in Japan as an English teacher a couple of years later and that was when we thought of settling in Japan. It’s a beautiful and safe place where both of us could live comfortably together, that’s why I want to live here.

Q：あなたはどこから来ましたか？あなたの母国の好きなところは何ですか？
私はフィリピンのマニラから来ました。フィリピンで一番好きなのは食べ物です。フィリピン料理はアジア料理と西洋料理が混ざり合い、たくさんの文化や味が存在し、一生食べても飽きることがありません。
Q：子どもの頃は何を楽しんでいましたか？
子供の頃、友達と外で遊ぶのがとても楽しかったです。鬼ごっこ、ケンケンパー、警ドロなど、色んなゲームをしたり、屋内で粘土や絵で遊んだりもしました。本を読むのが大好きで、ロアルド・ダールとグースバンプスの本を集めていました。学校では、休憩時間に図書館でたくさんの時間を過ごし、毎週新しい本を借りていました！
Q：英語教師になる前に何をしていましたか？
英語の先生になる前にはいくつか他の仕事をしていました。大学での専攻は情報デザインでしたので、大学卒業後の最初の数年間はグラフィックデザインの仕事をたくさんしました。その後、ビデオ制作管理に携わり、企業間でのビデオおよびテクノロジープロジェクトや事業開発を担当していました。
Q：あなたの好きな日本食は何ですか？
何よりも食事が原動力で、クッキングや食べることが大好きです！私は日本食が大好きなので一番を選ぶのは難しいですが、今のところ、私のお気に入りはとんこつラーメンです。お勧めがあれば是非教えてくださいね！
Q：どうしてあなたは日本に住みたかったのですか？
子供の頃から日本の文化が大好きです。2013年に来ることが決まったとき、まるで故郷に帰るような思いがしました。私の夫（当時の彼）は、その数年後に日本で英語の先生として働くことになり、それをきっかけに日本に定住することを考え始めました。とても美しく安全な日本に住むことができ、本当に幸せです。
