This time of year we have our graduations, and transitions into a new school semester. We want to give a big congrats to all students who have recently finished another level of their English studies. Thank you to the parents and students. Students will now be able to take book-related quizzes on readingtree.net! This means that adult students can now start earning 指導者銭 for the work they put into reading all of the books we have available in the EP! Cafe. After a student checks out a book, they can take a short, 10-question quiz about the content of the book they are reading. Earn points for every question you correctly answer! Collect points to see how much progress you are making! Reading is very important for learning English, so now you can get rewarded for putting in the time and effort to read new books. Look for the stickers on the front of the book to see how many points you can earn. Thank you to everyone who joined us at the March Quiz Night Event. The staff of English-Please! had a great time playing Wheel of Fortune with you all. Congratulations to Team SNOW for winning the game and taking home the cookies! The scores were close, and Team Snow came out on top, a little ahead of Team Raccoon Dog and Rilakkuma Team. Everyone was able to solve the puzzles, even the more difficult ones! The staff had a fun time chatting with people between puzzles and having a few drinks with everyone who came. We look forward to seeing you all at future events here at English-Please! It’s the return of “Meet Your Sensei!” , with this month’s teacher – Jon sensei!
Q: Where are you from? What’s your favorite thing about your home country?
I’m from Invercargill, New Zealand. My favourite thing about my home country is the national rugby team called the All Blacks. They are a very strong team.
Q: What did you enjoy doing when you were a kid?
I enjoyed playing all sorts of sports such as rugby, cricket, swimming, and basketball. My home town is in the countryside, so there wasn’t much to do apart from play sports, practice a musical instrument or help out on the family farm. My family doesn’t have a farm, I have no musical talent so I was left with sports.
Q: What did you do before becoming an English teacher?
Before I became an English teacher I worked as a chef in England and New Zealand then I went to university in my mid 20s.
Q: What’s your favorite Japanese food?
I love a lot of different Japanese dishes, but I especially enjoy meat dishes. I love karaage, oyakodon and steak. I enjoy trying to cook Japanese dishes but this can be difficult for me.
Q: Why did you want to live in Japan?
I first came to Japan when I was 21 (2004) on a working holiday visa because my girlfriend at that time was Japanese. I returned in 2012 as I had fond memories and I had really enjoyed my time here.

様々な和食が大好きですが、特に肉料理が大好きです。から揚げ、親子丼、ステーキが大好きです。私は和食を作るのにチャレンジするのも大好きですが、難しいです。

ワーキングホリデービザで21歳の時に初めて来日しました。当時のガールフレンドが日本人だったんです。その当時の良い思い出があったのと、とても良い時間を過ごしたことから、2012年に再度日本に戻ってきました。
新幼稚園児のみなさん、新一年生のみなさん、ご入園、ご入学おめでとうございます。 新しい学校に入り人生の新しいステージに立つ新入生にとって、入園式、入学式は人生の新しい区切りを意味します。海外では９月入学が主流だそうですが、桜が満開になり、新しい季節の始まりを感じる4月は、物事のスタートとして、とても良いタイミングです。新しい季節の始まりに、新しい目標を設定してみるのもいいかもしれません。大きな目標ではなく、確実にできる小さな目標を積み重ねて、さらに飛躍できるとかっこいいですよね！英語学習においても、確実にできる小さな目標を設定してみましょう。 環境が変わって体調を崩すこともあります。バランスの良い食事と睡眠をよくとり、健康的に新しい1年を過ごしましょう！
